Announcements / Comments
Question #252 for conversation: (from KJ5EFO) Can you operate your station equipment remotely? If so, what modes do you use?
(If interested in submitting a weekly question, email n5zkf@arrl.net)
Ron Estes (KJ5EFO)
- My inspiration for the question: I’ve recently been using VARAnny to do VARA remotely
- ARES net on 443.425 MHz FM (KD5DLW) repeater
Matthew Cadman (KJ5IIF)
- Regarding remote operations:
- I don’t have a remote station capable of transmitting
- I do have an RTL-SDR that I can listen remotely through the computer it’s hooked up to
- Looking to get a Hermes-Lite 2
- W5AC club has a Flex 6400 that is remote-controlled
- W5AC club has a business meeting this week
- Thursday, 2025-12-04 19:00
- in Wisenbaker 236C
- Hoping to have a license test session before at 18:00
- Winter Field Day
- We’re probably going to be planning something over winter break
- Will need to coordinate with W5BCS, but with whom?
- N5ZKF: reach out to Tom Johnson (KI5ZPG)
Larry Shiver (KJ5KFU)
- I received a Flex 3000 from a friend that is capable of remote control
- Still learning how it works
Phil Gates (N5ZKF)
- Regarding Echolink last week:
- Everything was working except audio
- Sound devices weren’t enumerated the same way they were originally configured
- Not sure why that happened
Buy / Sell
Matthew Cadman (KJ5IIF)
- Reminder: W5AC is still looking for local organizations who might be interested in our old, unused “salvage” equipment
Information Exchange
Matthew Cadman (KJ5IIF)
- I’m thinking about getting a Hermes-Lite 2 and accompanying filter board
- Would be attached to a HF antenna
- Intended to be a remote setup
- Does anyone have experience with this radio or setup?
- (no response)
- Does anyone know of any ham radio clubs in the Conroe or Willis areas?
- N5ZKF:
- Lake Conroe Amateur Radio Club
- Several hams in Montgomery County
- Crossroads club, maybe?
- ARES group might have more info
- N5ZKF:
