Phil Gates (N5ZKF)
- It’s common to send APRS packet radio through a VHF/UHF transceiver for the following applications:
- Weather station data
- Balloons
- Rockets
Information Exchange
Roseanne Cunningham (KC5FGG)
- Heard about someone doing a Meshtastic exchange between a drone and a weather balloon…
- Does that count as data (versus telemetry)?
- N5ZKF:
- Telemetry is generally classified as measurement information
- Other data (not from a measurement instrument) might be like a file transfer or Winlink
- Meshtastic uses “LoRa” radio, which is generally not amateur radio (secondary use band reservation)
- W5DZ:
- Meshtastic devices can have GPS modules
- Useful for tracking location of objects (especially things in the air)
