Question #227 for conversation: Are you using Meshtastic?
From the Meshtastic website:
An open source, off-grid, decentralized, mesh network built to run on affordable, low-power devices.
(If interested in submitting a weekly question, email n5zkf@arrl.net)
Matthew Barry (KG5LYE)
- Enjoy tinkering with Meshtastic!
- Not too active on the main messaging channel
- I do more listening and data relaying for my own devices
- Enjoy it for its own sake: seeing how widespread and active the network is
- Over 100 active nodes in the local area
- My radio lights up every few minutes
- I like to take it with me whenever I go traveling to spot other nodes along the way
- 471 total nodes seen so far
Joe Napoli (KG5SDF)
- Haven’t been to Field Day in a while; location?
- N5ZKF: We’ll be at the American Legion Post 159
- Planning to bring someone else
- I’ll need transportation to the meeting on 2025-06-21
- Near intersection of Wellborn and Deacon Dr (401 Heather Ln)
- Good on QRZ
- KJ5EEV: I’m nearby and can help
Mike Streiff (KJ5EEV)
- Been doing Meshtastic for a few months now
- Really cool to just see the network
- All the way out to Biloxi, MS
Ron Estes (KJ5EFO)
- I have the hardware, but I don’t use it actively
- I like the peace of mind of having it available
Lorna Flansburg (KI5FIZ)
- Robertson County ARES: this Saturday, 2025-06-14, is our monthly meeting
- However, instead of meeting at the fire station, we’ll be meeting in my garage
- Gather at 09:30
- Address is good on QRZ
- 07:45 Breakfast beforehand
- Preparing all of the stuff from K5ENL for sale at Field Day
- It’ll be hot and dirty, so dress accordingly
Matthew Cadman (KJ5IIF)
- Howdy from W5AC!
- Will the aforementioned sale be at W5BCS Field Day?
- N5ZKF: yes, will be at our ARRL Field Day location
- 2025-06-28/29
- American Legion Post 159
- Will include in W5AC announcements
- N5ZKF: yes, will be at our ARRL Field Day location
- Some notes on Meshtastic
- At end of last semester, we put a beam antenna meshtastic node on O&M building pointed at Austin
- Local “upper roof” coverage node, but we have reports that signal coverage from local area node is not as good as we would like
- Hoping to investigate when the radar can be turned off
Tim Hasselbach (K9ZZK)
- Greetings from Fairfield, TX! (about 90 miles north of B/CS)
- Great propagation! There must be some tropospheric ducting going on.
- Pretty significant rain coming in up here.
