Question #198 for conversation: Do you have any antique radio equipment?
(If interested in submitting a weekly question, email n5zkf@arrl.net)
John Graesser (KC5DWD)
- Is American Legion Post firearm friendly?
- W5HVS: concealed and open carry are allowed
Jason Shutt (KI5LGO)
- I inherited my wife’s grandfather’s old Kenwood TS-520: he’s now a silent key.
- Need to get it from Austin
- N5ZKF: if it hasn’t been used in a long time, be sure to warm it up gently.
Dick Zimmer (W5DZ)
- Got Atwater Kent at the Belton Hamfest a few years ago
- AM broadcast receive only
- 4 tubes, had to build a power supply for it
Bill Preston (KZ3G)
- Just acquired a Collins 75A-4
- Not in service yet
- Old, but maybe not antique: Yaesu FT-1000D
Curtis Pool (KD5HEY)
- I had a Collins that didn’t survive the Katrina flood
- Also have a Kenwood TS-520S from 1972
- Needs to be fully grounded before you transmit, or “it will tickle you”
Troyce Wilson (KC5CBI)
- Oldest radio is a shortwave receiver: Heathkit 717 solid-state
- Purchased in 1973, assembled it, and sent it to Heathkit to get it aligned
- Still operational as of 2 years ago
Jonathan Graham (KD5GG)
- Had a couple of tube radios over the years
- Drake, old Kenwoods, etc.
- “They had a unique smell”
