Question #186 for conversation: have you explored the M17 open source digital radio project?
(If interested in submitting a weekly question, email n5zkf@arrl.net)
Ron Hambric (N5SBN)
- CEOC visit this Friday 09:00
- We’ll meet out on the sidewalk about 10 mins early.
- If you arrive late, call (979) 821-1012 or on 443.425 MHz FM (KD5DLW) repeater
David Bailey (K5DKB)
- I am now running a Bulletin Board System (BBS) on our Meshtastic net
- If you’d like to experiment with it, send direct message to node
DBBS
, and it will message you back with instructions - Still a work in progress
- If you’d like to experiment with it, send direct message to node
- N5ZKF: Makes me nostalgic for the good old dial-up days!
Matthew Barry (KG5LYE)
- M17… What is it?
- N5ZKF: Digital radio protocol similar to other digital modes (DMR, D-STAR, Yaesu System Fusion, etc.)
- Can handle data, (code2-encoded) voice,
- Entirely open-source and reliant on the community for innovation
- No licensing fees
- Created for amateur radio, as compared to others that have been adapted to amateur radio use.
- Note: D-STAR is also open to implement, but AMBE licensing fees apply if you want to do so
Buy / Sell
Michael Bobinski (N5NYL)
- I found a couple of vintage Yaesu FT-11R radios, but batteries were dead
- same form factor as FNB-14 batteries
- Anyone have any laying around?
- N5ZKF: NiCd battery? Or maybe FBA-17 alkaline case?
- I usually monitor this repeater; just call out
Closing Remarks
- N5ZKF: “I think the reason these nets are shorter when I’m not on is because I talk too much”
- KG5LYE: I think it’s because you make them interesting!
- You always have a question that makes for interesting discussion each week!
- You’re cordial, welcoming, and are a great ambassador for Amateur Radio!
- Thank you so much for what you’re doing!
