Question #183 for conversation: What was your favorite part of Field Day this year?
(If interested in submitting a weekly question, email n5zkf@arrl.net)
Matthew Barry (KG5LYE)
- I worked large-scale FT8 for the first time
- I had played around with it some, only a few contacts here and there, but this was my first time working
- It’s different, but it felt like real radio!
- I learned about the fantastic “Meshtastic” devices
Lorna Flansburg (KI5FIZ)
- I also enjoyed working FT8 and learning a lot from David about it
- Had the chance to learn one-on-one about it, and that would be a great thing to repeat in future Field Days
Kerry Miller (WD5ABC)
- Field Day report
- Much better propagation
- Worked Alaska and Hawaii on 5 W (but not Louisiana)
- 100 W solar panel and a large boat battery that didn’t need to be changed out
- Vertical and loop antennas
- A few FT8 contacts (just to say we did), but everything else on CW
Mike Wisby (KA5HIA)
- Very productive Field Day
- Great job by setup crew outside beforehand
- Everything was done safely
- Well-organized
- Something for everyone
- Missed having our CW expert
- Great food
Ron Estes (KJ5EFO)
- Same sentiment as everyone!
- Learning the Icom IC-7300 from KG5LYE
- Having KL2PB on the other side of the GOTA station
Brian Gaskamp (KA5BKG)
- Was with Brenham club for Field Day
- Best since I’ve been active again
- 500-ish FT8 contacts
- 6m, 2m simplex
- Martin Jue’s nephew lives in Brenham (Martin is the founder of MFJ Enterprises)
