- Armed Forces Day Cross-Band Test is this weekend
- Military stations will be listening on amateur radio bands and responding on published (non-amateur) frequencies
- Among the contacts are:
- US Northern Command
- USS Midway
- the Pentagon (W5WAR)
Matthew Barry (KG5LYE)
- use CHIRP for HTs
- ICS 217 form from ARES for uniform channel programming
- Mobile rig has some additional air band and FRS/GMRS frequencies to monitor
- Desktop rigs are ad-hoc with maybe a few common frequencies
- At first, I thought you meant “memories” as in logs or QSL cards
Phil Gates (N5ZKF)
- few manually programmed HF frequencies
- mobile rigs organized by band
- HTs that support memory groups are grouped by geography (e.g., counties)
- Scanning receivers are also grouped by geography and then by service type:
- local fire, local law enforcement, state and county law enforcement, ham radio, aviation, TAMU, etc.
- Also have geographic virtual configs in memory that can be loaded and rebooted
- Effectively reprogramming the radio on-the-fly
