Announcements / Comments
Question #144 for conversation: Are you prepared for an emergency? (Water, food, medicine, etc.)
(If interested in submitting a weekly question, email n5zkf@arrl.net)
Ron Hambric (N5SBN)
- CEOC visit
- Friday, 2023-09-22 09:00
- Call on 443.245 MHz FM (KD5DLW) repeater or (979) 821-1012 to be let in
Andrew Byorth (KG5JDJ)
- (to Dick Zimmer (W5DZ)): received weird spearphishing emails about club repeater
- N5ZKF: I got one too; huge uptick in phishing and spam lately
Bill Rose (K5WTR)
- Have received strange emails, too… Including some apparently from myself!
- Communications, water, food (freeze-dried), electricity (solar, battery, and generator), and meds
- Everyone should be prepared: Amateur radio originated as permission from the government to assist with emergency response
- Hint: if getting a portable generator, get one that’s “multi-fuel” (propane/gasoline)
Dick Zimmer (W5DZ)
- 70 gal potable water in a tank
- regarding email:
- started my computer one day and found a bunch of emails I didn’t recognize
- looks like someone managed to figure out my password
- changed it and it seems to have gone away.
Matthew Barry (KG5LYE)
- Scout motto: “Be prepared”
- Kinda fallen short in this area:
- have several cans, beans, rice; probably enough for a week or two if rationed properly
- water “ballast” in fridge (about 5 gals)
- no electrical backup for radios other than UPS (could use mobile rig)
Jeff McDowell (KI5CES)
- Regarding multi-fuel generators:
- LP gas: can get a tap directly from city supply or LP gas tank on property
