• built 1/4-wave vertical ground-plane antenna based on info presented in recent antenna theory presentations
  • more ground planes really help with reception
  • contacts as far as Australia

• Earth is a lossy conductor, but radials make it more like a perfect ground
• raising the antenna off the ground gives even better isolation
• also better to use lots of short radials versus a few long radials
