• What is the Silent Key tradition of Last Call?
• N5ZKF:
  • before we go through the net agenda, we sometimes do a “last call”
  • old memorial tradition going back many years through many organizations (even outside of ham radio)
  • whenever a ham radio operator passes away, we call out to them one last time to honor them
    • call their call sign three times
  • I usually find out about them from obituaries in the newspaper

• Echolink appears to be online and reaching the repeater again!
  • Paul seems to have fixed the issue
  • N5SBN: be sure to pause for a few seconds between the conversation to allow for transmission delay

Emergency Preparedness

• encourage everyone to get involved with either ARES or RACES
  • Emergency communications serves as a “backbone” of the hobby
• N5ZKF: there is also more to the service definition
• K5DKB: practice and preparedness keeps skills fresh for when emergency does come
• N5SBN: Winlink is the preferred official means of communication in an emergency
• Radio eqpipment is particularly EM-sensitive
