ARRL VEC Field-Stocked Club

• After having hosted four VE test sessions, we are now field-stocked!
• We now have exams, forms, etc. and can hold a test session at any time now
• Previously, we had to request materials from the ARRL for each exam (which was a lot of guesswork) and return everything afterwards

American Legion Post 159 Outreach

• They’ve given us a home in their facility
• It’d be nice to do continue doing something for them (preferably on an ongoing basis)
  • They have Coffee and Donuts social every Thursday 08:00/10:00

• Send delegates to an event to present gift

• Will go through radio equipment to inventory capabilities
• We have some capabilities that may not be exercised:
  • D-STAR, DMR, Yaesu Fusion, etc.
  • Maybe form user groups to keep exercising them
  • KF5WGJ: Set a date and send an email to the listserv

RACES

• Update on Dick Zimmer (W5DZ)
  • Wheelchair-bound, but in good spirits
  • Need to get him out of the house
  • Plan to “kidnap” him and take him to C&J’s one of these days
    • He and his wife are on board with this plan
• Facility at RELLIS is stuck in political discussions
  • Working through existing DPS facility equipment

Gift Photo for Charlie Culver (KD5DLW)

• Kevin Walton (K5BTX), Phil Gates (N5ZKF), et al. have a framed photo of KD5DLW during construction when two towers were up
  • Many members have signed it
• Wanted to do a BBQ at Charlie’s place to present this photo to him: didn’t come to fruition
• Invited him to field day to present photo to him: wasn’t able to make it
• Finally met him on Friday Lunch at Feed Barn to get it to him
  • He extended his thanks on multiple occasions
  • Photo is now hanging prominently in his office
• K5BTX spearheaded effort to grant Charlie honorary membership in the club

Kevin Walton (K5BTX) Moving Away

• This is Kevin’s (K5BTX) last meeting
• Will be moving to Clayton, NC, 2023-10-10 (and will unfortunately miss the annular eclipse)
• Plans to be back for the total eclipse
• “Thank you for your friendship”
• Keep in touch! 10 m band is hopping, by the way
